Training the Dog — and Supporting the Family

A family I recently worked with had just welcomed a newborn into their home.
Their dog — a bright, driven German Shepherd — had always been high energy. She pulled hard on walks, barked at every passerby, and had very little impulse control.
Now, with a baby in the mix, those behaviors went from inconvenient… to overwhelming.
What they needed wasn’t just obedience. They needed a system — a way to help their dog adapt to this massive life change while keeping the baby safe and the home peaceful.
So we worked together to create:
Calm, structured leash manners for daily stroller walks
Crate routines to provide rest and predictability
Boundaries around baby gear and feeding times
A communication system that worked for both dog and human — without stress or conflict
Within a few weeks, their dog went from overstimulated to present. From pulling to walking calmly beside the stroller. From frantic to focused.
This is what dog training should be: not just behavior change, but family support.
If you’re in the Kansas City area and your dog is struggling to adjust to a new baby — I’d love to help.
