Professional Dog Trainer in Kansas City for Obedience & Behavior Issues

If you're dealing with leash reactivity, aggression, or a dog who's just stopped listening — you're not starting from scratch, and you're not the only one who's been there. I come to your home, work with your dog where the behavior actually happens, and build a plan around how you really live.

ABOUT Chris Canine Training

It started with a question

I've been working with dogs for 18 years — and the ones who taught me the most were the "impossible" cases. The reactive dogs. The ones who couldn't settle. The ones whose owners had tried everything and were running out of hope.

That's why I started Chris' Canine Training here in Kansas City — to help dogs and their people move past frustration and build real understanding.

I specialize in leash reactivity, board-and-train programs, and relationship-based behavior modification. My approach is built on clarity, structure, and timing — helping a dog understand what's expected of them, not just comply in the moment. Social pressure (including the calming influence of a steady, balanced dog) plays a role in that process, and tools like e-collars come into play only when they're genuinely needed — never as a default.

Every program includes real-world proofing with public field trips around Kansas City, because the goal isn't a perfect sit in my backyard — it's a dog you can actually live with.

When a dog learns how to work through pressure calmly and confidently, everything shifts. If you're tired of feeling stuck, embarrassed, or like your dog will never change, let's talk.

This work isn't about obedience. It's about partnership.

Dogs don't figure things out just because time passes — they learn through structure, consistency, and repetition. Most behavior issues start to shift pretty fast once a dog has calm routines and clear expectations to work with. But the real test isn't the living room — it's everywhere else. That's why our training is built around helping dogs understand what's expected of them in real life, not just during a session.

SERVICES

Here's where we focus, and what it actually looks like in practice.

This is the foundation — clear commands, consistency, and skills that hold up at home and out in the world. We work on leash manners, recall, impulse control, and just plain better communication between you and your dog.

For the tougher stuff — reactivity, anxiety, fear-based behavior, impulse issues. Every plan is built around your dog's temperament, environment, and history. The goal isn't just "stop doing that" — it's lasting change your dog actually understands.

One-on-one time, built around your goals and your dog's pace. You get direct feedback and hands-on coaching, so you're not guessing what to do once I leave.

For working dogs, performance dogs, and handlers who need more — drive control, obedience under distraction, and reliability that holds up under real pressure.

Considering I'm only ever away from our puppy, Bodhi, for more than a couple of hours at a time; I was nervous about sending him to board and train. But as soon as I met Chris in person and saw how calm and kind he interacted with Bodhi, all of that anxiety went away. I was immediately impressed with with how quickly he went to work with our dog, not only training him but teaching myself and my husband based on our dog's specific needs. He updated us throughout his stay and assured us he was being his normal goofy self, but that he was thriving getting to learn under an experienced hand. Bodhi has since developed problem solving skills, and I have become a more confident dog owner. Chris most certainly has our greatest respect for his time and dedication.

Chris is extremely knowledgeable about all areas of caring for a new puppy. He is aware of things like dietary needs, age appropriate exercises and much more. With a one hour private lesson Chris has shown my daughter and I common undesirable behaviors to look for and how to discourage them. His insight and instruction have given me a lot of much needed tools to get the most out of the time I am spending with my new puppy. I highly recommend him if you need help with dog training.

I came to Chris after rescuing a Malinios. Feeling out of my depth with a mal, I asked Chris to help me with sports training, and understanding what owning a sport dog is like. He has been a wonderful mentor and friend through the process, and my Mal has made huge strides. His knowledge and experience far surpasses my expectations.
